Around one in ten people write their own Will – but are you aware of the risks posed by DIY Wills?

Mistakes made in DIY Wills are often not discovered until after that person has passed away, by which time it is too late to rectify the damage that a poorly written Will can cause.

According to a YouGov survey, 96% of people who prepare their own Will say they do not need external advice, with 21% stating that fears over the cost of professional advice prompted them to do it themselves.

However, in the long run, paying a little more to use a professional can save a lot of money after your death, and greatly reduces the risk of any issues that could delay the distribution of the estate.

The YouGov report states that one in ten people write their own Will. Unfortunately over 1 in 4 Wills are found to be partially or wholly invalid at the time they are needed.

Your Will is the largest cheque you will ever write – it gives away all your assets. If you do it yourself, or use an unqualified cheap Will writer, it could cost your family dear after you’re gone!
