28% of Wills are found to be invalid on death – many due to not having been kept up-to date.

Life is constantly subject to change, giving away little indication of where it’s going to take you from one day to the next.  As difficult as it is to predict the future, one way to help secure yours is to check your Will.

A valid Will provides the most accurate reflection of your final wishes. Naturally then, they should be updated each time something changes which could affect those wishes. Neglecting to do this may mean loved ones are neglected in your Will.

A recent study indicated that of those who had a Will, over half (56%) were made at least six years ago.  While almost one third (31%) had written their Will over a decade ago.

Situations change on a day to day basis, so when it comes to a period of even six years, it is almost certain circumstances have changes in some way. Like anything else in life, Wills require maintenance to be fit for purpose.

It is generally recommended that at least every 5 years you review your Will to ensure it still does what you want it to, so you can update it if necessary.  However, if you’ve recently had children or grandchildren, got married, remarried or divorced, NOW is the time to review your Will and update it to reflect these changes.

Heir Tight Wills writes to all their clients every 4-5 years to remind them of the need to review their Wills, with a Free Will Review, but if your circumstances have changed and your Will hasn’t, please CONTACT US for a FREE Consultation to discuss writing or updating your Will & estate planning provisions, or call Rachael Rodgers on 0845 519 7585.
